Dr. Dan Weitzenkorn MD, of the Roaring Fork Eye Clinic is the region’s leader in Eye Care.
Dr. Weitzenkorn is an ophthalmologist, a medical doctor specially trained in diseases and surgery of the eye. Ophthalmologists are the most highly trained eye care specialists. Dr. Weitzenkorn is the doctor who is trained to treat medical diseases of the eye, eye injuries, and perform eye surgery but he also can perform primary eye care like measuring a patient for glasses and contacts.
Dr. Weitzenkorn, or Dr. Dan, as some of his friends and patients call him, provides the full range of eye care, but specializes in cataract surgery. He provides the highest quality vision exams for people seeking glasses prescriptions or contacts. These patients get the added benefit of having the medical portion of their vision exam provided by a real ophthalmologist. (Also, many of Dr. Weitzenkorn’s exams are covered by medical insurance.) Dr. Weitzenkorn also has years of training and experience diagnosing and treating glaucoma, cataracts, retinal tears and retinal detachments, diabetic eye disease, and eye problems in children. Dr. Weitzenkorn has an ongoing relationship with many of the nations top Eye Institutes including Rocky Mountain Lion’s Eye Institute at the CU medical school, Jules Stein in L.A., and Bascomb-Palmer in Miami. This gives him the ability to consult by phone with other specialists or get patients seen immediately at these top Eye Hospitals.
Dr. Weitzenkorn feels strongly that for his patients to enjoy their best vision he needs to provide the highest quality optical services and glasses. He has been doing this for many years, now in association with well-known master optician Randy Scott.

Dr. Weitzenkorn was born and raised in Lakeland, Fl., a small town in central Florida. His scientific curiosity was evident as a child, and he excelled at every level of school. He also developed a love of the outdoors. He obtained the level of Eagle Scout. Dr. Weitzenkorn went to the University of Florida where he majored in Biochemistry producing a PhD level thesis before deciding to enter Medical School. He finished third in his class at the prestigious University of Florida Medical School, and then did an internship in Internal Medicine at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver. Dr. Weitzenkorn then spent three years in eye surgery training eventually obtaining the rank of Chief Resident in Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida.
After finishing his training Dr. Weitzenkorn relocated to Colorado and he opened clinics in Aspen and Glenwood Springs. That was in 1986. Dr. Weitzenkorn has been here ever since, raising his children and serving the needs of his community day and night. Dr. Weitzenkorn is on staff at both Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs and Aspen Valley Hospital in Aspen.
